The videogame voyage began this past weekend. I’d like to report that I am the proud owner of a new console, but unfortunately I cannot say that. It did have some highs, but it also had its lows as well. As I stated earlier my main goals are to find older consoles at garage sales, or swap meet, or flea markets. So on Thursday afternoon I researched a bit on Craigslist to look for any garage sales in the area that contained older video games. Low and behold, one advertised sale had a listing for a Nintendo, two Segas, and a Playstation 1. I knew I had to check it out.
Our household woke up pretty early as we always do. It's one of the added benefits of having a three year old and a six month old. My wife, being the women she is, wanted to go shopping out the outlet malls to get the boys some winter clothes. The outlets are about an hour drive, so she wanted to get ready quickly, and get out the door. Perfect for me, is what I was thinking, and I took off to get us ready. (Us, being myself, boys, diaper bag, etc.) So in the midst of getting ready, I ask the question. "Umm, hey babe, you think we can go check out this place?" It was met with resistance, but she agreed and we made plans to alter our route so that we could stop by the garage sale.
So we arrive maybe forty-five minutes after this sale supposedly started, and I hop out of the car. I walk about and begin browsing, scanning tables looking for those classic games of yesterday. Finally, my eyes spot them. I casually stroll over to the boxes and peek inside. I see two Segas, some Sega games, and a Playstation 1 with some Playstation 1 games. At this time the owner greets me, asking if I need some help. I quickly tell her about seeing the Craigslist ad and ask about the Nintendo. I am then informed that she had just sold it. Heartbreak comes over me, and I am suddenly disappointed, I nod, and quickly begin scanning the Sega games, which unfortunately were mostly sports titles. I looked over the Playstation games, sports games as well. I decide against the Sega, thinking I’ll wait to hopefully find a better deal than what she was asking.
I thanked the owner, and was on my way. I felt defeated, but there will be more opportunities to come. The voyage has begun, but no victories yet. Maybe next time.
