Dissapointment Giving Way To Pride

If you have been keeping up with my blogs, then you know about the disappointment I felt when my NES decided it did not want to work. I was bummed, just as anyone else who had been looking forward to something so much would have been. To have a desire to want to experience something, and then to have that opportunity taken from you is horrible. At least you think it would be. I thought it was at first, but as time has moved on my feeling have began to change quite a bit.

Scoring an NES so early on in this project was amazing. I was excited to hook everything up and kill some time playing Duck Hunt with my son. I wanted to see him experience the same kind of fun with video gaming that I had as a child. So after a few days of tinkering with it I was upset when I couldn’t get it up and running.  I cleaned the NES, changed pin connectors, and cleaned games and still it wasn't working. After coming to the conclusion that my RF Modulator was bad, I decided I needed to purchase a new one.

It was shortly after this purchase I realized something. I realized that once I installed this part on my NES, which I salvaged from a garage sale, this system would be pretty much completely refurbished. That thought brings a smile to me. It gives me a little bit of pride. Sure it would have been great to be able to come home and hook it up and immediately start playing, I'm not denying that. The fact of the matter is this, I worked hard on this NES. I put my time and effort into getting it to work. Those facts right there make this item that more special to me. Yes, simply owning an NES and being able to nostalgically live in those games makes the system special. But now to me, its a little bit more special.

As I mentioned earlier, I ordered a brand new motherboard/RF modulator. Earlier this week I scored a new 72 pin connector, meaning everything in this NES will be pretty much brand spanking new. In preparation of the new motherboard, I decided to disassemble everything last night, and soak it in some bleach water to get it as new looking as possible.

Soaking up some bleach.

All broken down

I didn't realize that even though I diluted the bleach pretty well (1 to 10) that it would still smell the house up so much. Let's just say the wife was not in the best of moods upon coming home to a overly bleach smelling house. But hey, my NES looks great! Love you babe.

That's all for today guys. I am hoping to get my motherboard in tomorrow or Friday at the latest. Till then, take it easy!
